Maria Alesina is a PhD student at the Department of Literary Studies, Ghent University. After the completion of her bachelor studies in Philosophy, she obtained her master degrees in European and German Studies in Kiev-Mohyla Academy in Ukraine and Friedrich Schiller University in Germany. After that she studied European Politics in the framework of the advanced master program in the College of Europe in Bruges. Apart from her studies, Maria was working as a journalist and culture editor of the several magazines. As part of the WeChangEd team, she will be examining Russian and Eastern European periodicals and the way their female editors incorporated the contemporary Western European ideas into the national contexts. Her work will particularly focus on shaping the popular perceptions of femininity throughout the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
