Dr. Julie M. Birkholz’s research focuses on the use of the network perspective in digital collections- from building digital pipelines, to extracting networks from text. She uses a quantitative social network analysis approach to systematically compare contexts, structures and outcomes of understanding the transnational networks of women editors.

From 2009 – 2014 she was a PhD Candidate at the Network Institute, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands researching large social network dynamics through the lens of modern knowledge production behaviors in science. From 2014 – 2017 she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Higher Education Governance Ghent working on networks in higher education.
